Good law and order situation at border areas necessary to boost trade & commerce: P Vaiphei

The Government has been trying to come up with "logistic policy" for the State since April this year despite having financial/fund constraints, informed Principal Secretary (Textiles, Commerce and Industries) P Vaiphei.
He also underscored the importance of making the logistic policy compatible and practical in ground reality at time of enforcement.
P Vaiphei was speaking as chief guest at a one-day workshop on "Export Procedure and Documentation", organized by Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) and Indian Chamber of Commerce, North East at Imperial Hall, Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal today.
The Principal Secretary went on to point out the need to maintain good law and order in the State and in North East as a whole, particularly in border areas, in the process to boost the trade and commerce activities between North East States and Asian countries.
He observed that the public should know the impact of volatile law and order condition concerning trade and business between countries while maintaining that insurgents finding a safe haven in border areas will always disturb the trade and commerce between countries.
Export Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank), Mumbai General Manager Utpal Gokhale, while speaking as guest of honour, emphasized that North East region can be the epicentre of unexplored opportunities in the hub of Asia, reminding that about 98 percent of the region borders forms international boundaries.
He lamented that the region is impeding in the industrial development although it is bountifully endorsed with biodiversity, hydro power, oil and gas, coal, limestone and other natural resources.
Informing that a recent report on economic census has projected Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector as the engine of growth in the North East region, he conveyed that EXIM Bank has been supporting several entrepreneurs of the eight States of the region among other perspectives after setting up its (EXIM Bank) office at Guwahati in 2003.He asserted that EXIM Batik has always aiming to create a synergy and symbiotic relationship with the North East people and added that the bank has also been playing a pivotal role in creating awareness for the promotion of export potential as well as export oriental units.
Meanwhile, MCCI president Dr Radhesyam Oinam said "With the Indo ASEAN bilateral trade volume at US S 80 Bn, India-China bilateral trade at US $ 85, India Myanmar bilateral trade expected to reach USS 3 Bill 11500 acres Myotha Industrial Park at Mandalay getting operational for global manufacturing corporate including Chinese factories, this region could catapult into a global trade logistics hub" .
The function was also attended by Trade, Commerce & Industries Director C Arthur.
Later, a technical session was also held where many experts and speakers have spoken on various topics followed by interactive session.
