Chandel District Hospital stands alone sans specialists

The District Hospital Chandel located at Chandel Christian is standing alone to welcome its poor patients without any specialist doctors.
The matter came to light when MLA of Chandel A/C Nunghlung Victor paid an inspection visit to the district hospital today.
Apprising the MLA on the state of affairs prevailing in the lone district hospital, Chairman of Rogi Kalyan Samiti (District Hospital Management Committee) Dr H Kobor said that there is not a single specialist doctor in the hospital.
There is no Physician, General Surgeon, Paediatrician, ENT specialist, Orthopedist, Dermatologist, Pathologist and Radiologist in the hospital.
Furthermore, he pointed out that lack of gynaecologist is one of the major problems being faced by the patients coming for delivery cases and appealed to the MLA for sending one Gynaecologist and a Paediatrician at the earliest possible.
Dr Kobor also asserted that failure on the part of the government in releasing the required funds has led to delay in construction work on the proposed 50 bedded hospital in the district.
Taking serious note of the complaints, MLA Nunghlung Victor assured that he would do his level best in pressing the government and the Ministers concerned for sending the required specialists and for releasing the fund for construction of the proposed 50-bedded hospital.
Later on, the MLA visited a proposed site for construction of an orphan home under the Social Welfare Department.
The site is located adjacent of United College, Chandel.
Deputy Commissioner of Chandel Th Chittaranjan accompanied the MLA during the inspection.
