HIV/AIDS mission flagged off

Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) Deputy Director Dr RK Roji today flagged off a mission, which would survey HIV/AIDS prevalence and the status of PLHIVs at different villages of Chandel district, from Nupilal Memorial complex today.
The mission would cover villages like T Junction, Zero Tengnoupal, Moltuk, Paraolon, Joupi, Selon, Molcham and New Samtal etc.
MACS Deputy Director Mongjam Abhiram said that the campaign would be carried out by around 15 volunteers.
The mission is a part of India Government's Vision 2020, he added.
Urging the people of Manipur to put in collective effort to get rid of HIV/AIDS, Abhiram said that in addition to the existing ART Centres located at different parts of nine districts of the State, a new ART Centre is being planned for Moreh as well.
Out of the total 25,000 people, affected by HIV/AIDS, 21,000 PLHIVs are getting free ART drugs from the Government after registering themselves at different ART Centres, he added.
As per records, 11,000 PLHIVs are still healthy, Abhiram said and added that 650 to 700 children are affected by the disease.
