Imphal, October 05 2011:
In what could be described as a fallout of a local row arising out of claims and counter-claims involving a Minister's daughter and a councillor of Imphal Municipal Council, difference of opinion today ensnared the Council.
While IMC's Public Health and Sanitation Committee chairman Ksh Umesh cautioned all concerned against disgracing the Council with what he termed as narrow political attitude IMC chairperson N Raghumani contended that his recent comment to the media on the said issue had the approval of 19 councillors.
Sharing his personal view on the accusation as well as denial with regard to manhandling of a lady lecturer of LMS Law College namely Y Sarojbala by Councillor Birjit while speaking to media persons at IMC office premises today, Umesh raised objection against alleged demeaning of IMC on political parochialism.
He opined that Chairperson Raghumani's contention yesterday on the said issue based on a mobile phone video clip would be a premature conclusion.
whether Birjit assaulted Sarojbala or not is not a prerogative of the IMC to decide on, Umesh said and expressed that the Council coming a conclusion would not be in the right perspective.
He, however said physical assault of Birjit, as was alleged, is highly condemnable.
On the otherhand, IMC Chairperson N Raghumani said he spoke to the media after a decision by 19 Councillors of the Council who deliberated on the issue.
In case employees' union, officials or IMC Councillor(s) want to hold a press conference such a programme should have the due approval of either the Chairperson or Vice Chairperson of IMC, Raghumani asserted.
In case of an individual desiring to express his view point on any issue such an interaction should be organised beyond the IMC's parameters, he advised with apparent reference to Umesh talking to the media on the ongoing spat between the respective parties of Birjit and Sarojbala.
