Thoubal dam likely to be completed by 2015: Ngamthang

The Thoubal Multipurpose Project would likely be completed by 2015 or a little later to benefit the people of the State, Irrigation and Flood Control (IFC) Minister Ngamthang Haokip has assured during an inspection visit today.
Minister Ngamthang was accompanied by MLA of Saikul Yamthong Haokip during the inspection to Thoubal Multipurpose Project, which is under construction.
Talking to media persons on the sideline of the inspection, Ngamthang Haokip said that the dam could be well developed due to people's support and cooperation.
A new village and a playground have also been developed for the people, he stated.
The construction of the dam started in the year 1980 and so far 80 percent of the works have been completed.
A 7.5 megawatt power plant is also being developed along with other major facilities of irrigation and drinking water supply, the IFC Minister noted.
On commissioning, the project would be able to provide 10 million gallon of drinking water daily and about 21,862 hectares of paddy fields in Imphal East and Thoubal would be irrigated.
Moreover, Dolaithabi Barrage would also be completed in due course of time under Chief Minister Ibobi's supervision, he added.
Later, a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Maphou Dam was inaugurated by IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip.
However, the Minister and his team were astonished on seeing the PHC without any furniture or other required medical equipments.
Chief Medical Officer of Senapati district Pushpa Rai said that she had no knowledge about the inauguration of the PHC today.
A doctor and 10 other staffs have been posted at the PHC, but the PHC could not function well due to non-completion of the building.
