Thangal Surung villagers decry lack of development in the region

Villagers of Thangal Surung under Saikul block, Senapati district decried the apathy of State Govt towards the village due to lack of any developmental project in the area.
Speaking to the media persons, Rev Thangmi, Founding Father of the Thangal Naga Baptist Association (TNBA) said that a Primary Health Sub Centre was set up at Thangal Surung village during the regime of Late Reishang Keishing as the CM of the State, late Phungzathang as the Health Minister and Gaikhangam as the TD minister to look after the emergency delivery cases, to provide medical aid to the ailing children of the region where they are very common from time to time.

Rev Thangmi continued that there are 18 villages in the area comprising 80 households and sought the attention of the Govt on behalf of the people of the region to upgrade the health centre to look after the ailing mothers and children of the region.
With mission like "Go to Hills" under the Biren led Govt, people of the region hope that the new Govt would look into the needs of the hill.
He also drew the attention of the concerned department and Govt on the lack of proper sanitation, proper electrification and proper water supply in the area.
In the past, upgradation programme was taken in the area which was unsatisfactory to village elder, he said and sought the attention of the Govt to come and check the works that had been taken up in the area which are still lying in pathetic condition.
Silas Anth, village secretary also expressed dissappointment over the concerned Police Dept which chose to remain silent over the request of the VA to open a Police Outpost at the village for the maintenance of law and order in the area even though village authority had approached the concerned Minister and different high ranking officials.
Regarding education, K Gongrisim, headman of the village stated that earlier the Thangal Surung UJB School had up to class VIII with two buildings.
However, the buildings were demolished during the ethnic clash by unknown militants in the early 2000, he added and said that the remaining building structure cannot accomodate students to take classes which is still lying as it is due to no initiative by the Govt.At present, villagers had reportedly arranged an alternative to let the UJB School take up classes up to class V at other place, he added and said that he had earlier sought the attention of the former TD Minister, MLA, ADC member for a proper school building in the village.
However, no development could be seen till date, he lamented and sought immediate intervention from the Govt.
