Imphal, June 01 2018:
A book review function for 'Love, Lust and Loyalty', a book of poems written by Yuimi Vashum, was held at Books and Coffee, Singjamei Thokchom Leikai today.
The event, which was organised by Books and Coffee in collaboration with Penthrill Publication House, Nagaland and Of Poems and Photographs (OPAF), was attended by Editor of Imphal Free Press, Pradip Phanjoubam and a freelance journalist based in Imphal, Anjulika Thingnam, as book reviewers and Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Director Armstrong Pamei as the special invitee.
Speaking at the function, Pradip Phanjoubam said that if one reads Yuimi Vashum' s book, one can imagine the nightmares and hardships experienced by sexual abuse victims.
He conveyed that signs of self psycho analysis by the author can be seen while reading the book and the book not only details the hardships faced by sexual abuse victims but also ways to become free from such ravaged emotions.
Speaking at the event, Yuimi Vashum said that she faced many inconveniences while trying to publish the book and added that she initially feared that she would face backlash from the society for her book.
She also explained that the book showcases the emotions felt by a sexual abuse victim and well as the inability to bear the gaze and stigma of society.
The poems in the book use vulgar words directly to have more impact on the readers and to show that sexual abuse is not acceptable, Yuimi Vashum added.
