Health camp for ponies cum training programme on "Scientific Care and Management of Ponies" was organised at Nambul Mapal Polo Club, Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai, Imphal under the aegis of NRCE, Hisar and Central Agricultural University, Imphal.
As a part of the health camp, deworming medicines, mineral supplements were distributed to the owners of nearly 50 Manipuri ponies.
Calcium supplements for lactating mare as well as antiseptic solution in addition to medicines for specific cases were also handed over to the pony owners.
Dr Th Ranadhir Singh, Principal Investigator and Head of the Department of Animal Sciences, College of Agriculture, CAU, Imphal and organisers stated that the main objective of the programme was to take care of the health of the neglected ponies.
Dr Th Ranadhir further informed that for effective conservation of Manipuri pony, a healthy population of ponies needs to be insured.
As a part of the programme, a training on "Scientific Care and Management of Ponies" was also organised.
Kh Sunilkumar Singh, treasurer, All Manipur Polo Association, Dr Th Ranadhir Singh and Y Tomba Singh graced the inaugural function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
During the technical session, Dr Th.Ranadhir Singh spoke on "Scientific Housing, Feeding and Breeding of Ponies", Dr.John JRF spoke on "Common diseases of horses and their control and prevention" while Dr Reema Sarangthem, Project Assistant stressed on the topic "Routine management" .
