Imphal, May 29 2018:
The Supreme Court has approved the appointment of a regular Director for Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) as per its recruitment rules.
With the ruling given by a Supreme Court Division Bench headed by Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar, the long pending issue concerning the lack of a regular Director of RIMS may be solved at last.
It may be mentioned that a DPC was conducted, as per the current recruitment rules, for the appointment of a regular Director for the institution on January 17 last year.
However, a petition was filed at the High Court of Manipur praying for cancelling the DPC and conducting a new DPC after revising the recruitment rules.
As follow up to the petition, the High Court of Manipur, on March 27 (2017) directed the authority concerned to revise the recruitment rule and conduct a new DPC for the appointment of a regular Director for RIMS.
As the situation developed further, some of the candidates who participated in the initial DPC filed a petition at the Supreme Court praying for swift declaration of the DPC conducted on January 17 (2017) .
After continuous hearing of the petition, the Supreme Court, on May 7, approved the appointment of a regular Director for RIMS based on the existing recruitment rule.
However, the final hearing of the petition will be conducted during the second week of July.
