Imphal, May 28 2023:
The Langol Youth Development Club (LYDC) has asked the State Government to provide security in the face of the armed attacks on Meitei residents residing at Langol foothills by Kuki residents.
LYDC in a press release alleged that Kukis residing at Langol Phaipijang and Hebron Veng area attacked neighbouring Meitei residents at Langol foothill yesterday night at around 9.30 .
These Kuki people, who are being heavily guarded by Central armed forces, drew in personnel of State police force by setting fire on some of the abandoned houses of their own kin in their area and carried out gun attacks on the Meitei residences at Langol foothill by taking advantage of absence of State police, LYDC alleged.
Their attacks along the foothills are rampant and even caused many casualties and took lives at Phayeng yesterday night.
There have also been cases of seizures of arms from Kuki who were transporting it and as such Meitei residents along Langol foothill are gripped by constant fear of attacks, it said.
Citing the reasons, LYDC urged the State Government to either deploy State or Central armed forces to mitigate their fear and prevent Kuki youths who are loitering and threatening them.
