Blocked heart valve treated without surgery at SKY Hospital

SKY Hospital, Imphal West yet again saved life of a patient - Lamzasuan Guite (45), a resident of Churchandpur district, who was suffering from Rheumatic Heart Disease, Severe Mitral Stenosis (blocking of blood flow through the main valve of the heart called Mitral Valve), said a statement of Roni, PRO, SKY Hospital and Research Centre Pvt Ltd.
Lamzasuan Guite was initially advised to undergo open heart surgery for the replacement of the blocked valve.
On careful cath study and angiogram in the highly specialised cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) of SKY Hospital on May 4, Dr L Shyamkishore and his teammates found that the patient's heart valve stenosis could be treated with Balloon Dilatation of the stenosed (blocked) valve and open heart surgery could be avoided.
After obtaining an informed consent, Guite was treated with Balloon Dilatation of the stenosed mitral valve (Mitral Stenosis).
After the procedure, Guite was able to move the next day and was discharged from the hospital on May 6, said the statement of the hospital.
