Imphal, May 26 2016:
After a bailey bridge built across Imphal River along Motbung-Pukhao road was swept away by flood, Works Minister Ksh Biren and IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip today inspected the same site for construction of a new bailey bridge.
A bailey bridge which formed a key link of the 25 Kms long road from Motbung to Pukhao was swept away by flood last year.
The two Ministers also inspected the ongoing preparation works for construction of three slab-culvert across Imphal-Dimapur highway at Motbung.
Later speaking to media persons, Works Minister Ksh Biren highlighted the poor drainage system of Imphal-Dimapur highway and the need to construct three slab-culverts.
Informing that certain amounts have been sanctioned for developing Imphal-Dimapur highway, the Minister sought cooperation of all the people towards smooth execution of the highway development work.
He stated that the amount sanctioned for the highway development work would get lapsed if the same work could not be implemented on time.
Stating that he would consult engineers to build a new bailey bridge across Imphal River shortly, Ksh Biren informed that efforts are also on to prepare a detailed project report for construction of a permanent RCC bridge and seek necessary fund from the Centre.
He also assured that the highway stretch from Motbung to Imphal would be black-topped soon.
IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip remarked that Motbung-Pukhao road is a key route.
Pointing out that people are facing lots of difficulties after the bailey bridge built across Imphal River was swept away, Ngamthang appealed to the Works Minister to construct a new bailey bridge on a war-footing and complete the construction work before Christmas this year.
Ngamthang too appealed to all the people not to pose any hindrance or disturbance to development works pertaining to Imphal-Dimapur highway.
No progress has been achieved even though it has been more than six months since development work of Imphal-Dimapur highway was sanctioned on account of many disturbances.
He further sought intervention of civil society organisations so that all development works can be executed smoothly without undue disturbances.
PWD Chief Engineer and many other officials also took part in the inspection tour.
