New Delhi, July 24 2015 :
The Committee for Justice and Release of Moirangthem has today alleged that Rahul was falsely implicated by the Delhi police.
Rahul Moirangthem, a 19 year old student of Mount Carmel school in New Delhi was summoned on July 11 and subsequently arrested by the Delhi police on charge of burglary and vandalism at Holy Child Auxilium School in February and his own school in May this year.
Rahul was denied bail and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
Speaking at a press meet, the committee, that includes Rahul's father and sister Ramdhon and Supriya Moirangthem and other social activists, said that Rahul suffered damages to ear in drum due to physical assault by the Delhi police.
They alleged that this is a despicable plot to use Rahul as a "scapegoat" behind the infamous February 12 burglary case that happened at Holy Child Auxilium School which led to much political hue and cry as hate-attack on Christians by anti-Christian community of India.
Rahul was earlier arrested by the police on May 29 this year who accused him of raiding his very own Mount Carmel School and committing theft.
He was released on bail later and was recuperating in Imphal, when the summon order from Delhi police came on July 11 .
Upon his arrival, the police charged him of theft at Holy Child Auxilium School based on the fingerprints which were provided by Central Forensic Science Laboratory.
The police alleged that the fingerprints of Rahul matched with those found at the crime site of Holy Child Auxilium School.
Rahul's sister Supriya Moirangthem claimed that when the family of the victim appealed and requested that the CCTV footages be shown to them, Delhi police declined it and did not apparently cooperate.
Rahul's sister further stated that Rahul and two of his friends had decided to party on that fateful night (May 29) as Rahul was to head home ( Imphal) the very next day.
Rahul and his friends were taking selfies, when some personnel of Delhi police showed up and rounded them up.
Supriya alleged that Rahul and his friends were forced to sign four blank papers and his fingerprints taken in the police station.
She also alleged that the Delhi police were asking Rahul to give them bribes which he did not comply to leading the enraged Delhi police personnel to severely assault him so much so that his ear drums got damaged.
Medical reports have confirmed that Rahul indeed had suffered injuries due to the physical abuse committed by Delhi police.
Subsequently, Rahul 'confessed' to the crimes after being intimidated by the Delhi police that they will kill him or end his career, alleged his sister.
The committee for Rahul's Justice and Release finds the case bewildering, mentioning that , the authorities of Rahul's very own school Mount Carmel had never ever filed a report of robbery to the police.
Rahul's family confirmed from the school authority that it did not press any charges against the teenager.
Additionally, no fingerprints were taken from the school premises of Mount Carmel, according to a senior authority (name withheld) of the school itself.
The Committee for Justice and Release of Rahul Moirangthem further claimed that the National media misled the public.
They alleged that the National media without any substantial evidence and solely relying on police claims, began to report stories to demonize Rahul as a teen with acute behavioural problems and a student whose nature was akin to a hardened criminal.
The committee lamented that the National media's motive is doubtful and unethical adding that this is character assassination.
Student bodies from North Eastern States which are based in Delhi have denounced the police claims, stating that Rahul has been made a scapegoat for a case which Delhi police were unable to solve.
