HCV sensitization program held

Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+), Delhi Network of Positive People (DNP+), CARE Ukhrul, Ukhrul Network of Positive People (UNP+) and Network of Positive People Ukhrul (NPPU) have jointly organised a 2 days HCV sensitization and treatment program in ukhrul district at the conference hall of TTA Hamleikhong on August 22 and 23 .
The program was supported by Asia Pacific Network of Positive People (APN+) and Robert Carr fund for civil society Network.
The main objective of the workshop was to sensitize the CBOs, Civil Society Organizations, Women's organization and NGOs who are working on responding HIV and Drug use.
The program was inspired and sparked after the recent news in the local dailies here that a study conducted in Ukhrul among 22 IDUs for HCV out of which 18 were found to be positive.
So, due to the alarming situation with a prevalence of 86% high the program was conducted.
It was participated by 26 people from different organizations, in which the present HCV scenario in Ukhrul and the challenges that withstands were talked and discussed about.
At the end of the first day of the program, Ukhrul Coordination Committee on Hep C was formed to back up and steer the HCV treatment access movement in the district.
On the second day of the workshop the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Dr SK Chaurasia, IAS spoke about the alarming situation of Hep C in Ukhrul and in the State.
CMO Dr Ng Raikhan and Dr Ayao Vashum, Medical Superintendent Ukhrul District Hospital/District AIDS Officer also attended the occasion.
A recommendation which was unanimously agreed upon and framed during the program was submitted to the DC by the newly formed committee.
