Imphal, October 19 2020:
Outrightly rejecting Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou claim over the ownership of the NSU (National Sports University) site, the Konsakhul Area Joint Action Committee (KAJAC) has clarified that the land was 'not sold' to the two villages.
It may be noted that the two villages Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou had claimed citing Durbar verdict of 1928 that the land was bought by them by paying Rs 13 .
Contrary to the claim, the KAJAC claimed the verdict signed by SI Duncan dated January 20, 1928 "clearly stated that Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou were allowed to cut only the thatching grass in the disputed area" .
"It is nowhere mentioned in the verdict that any piece or portion of the land had been sold to Senjam Chirang and Senjem Khunou or its ownership right had been transferred for Rs 13 only to the aforementioned villagers.
Therefore, it is factually incorrect to claim that the said land belongs to them just because the Court allowed them to cut the thatching grass.
The fact of the matter is that Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou were allowed to cut the thatching grass on payment of Rs 13 and no ownership right was given to them in the agreement and it has been already proved in the Court," KAJAC said.
"In fact, the Court verdict has clearly mentioned that the disputed site belongs to Konsakhul (Liangmai village) under erstwhile Senapati district, now Kangpokpi district..." said KAJAC citing records of case proceeding in Court appealing Senjam Chirang and Senjam khunou to "respect the Court order" .
