COHSEM gears up for Class XI, XII exams

The Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) has announced that a total of 28,024, will appear the Higher Secondary Examination 2018, and the result of the said examination will be declared within a month.
Speaking to media persons at his office at Babupara, today, the Chairman of COHSEM, L Mahendra explained that out of the total students, 25,791 are regular students while 2233 are 'others' candidate.
Compared to last year, the number of students has increased by 2000 this year.
16,768 students of non-Government Higher Secondary schools, 7,178 students of Government Higher Secondary schools, 3973 students of non-Government colleges, 51 students of Government colleges and 54 students of Council Private have been admitted for appearing the examination, he added.
The Chairman informed that out of the total 20,327 students appearing in the Science stream, 10,729 are male students and 9598 are female students.
Out of 7190 students appearing in the Arts stream, 3555 are males and 3635 are females, while out of the total 507 students appearing in the Commerce stream, 282 are males and 225 are female students.
L Mahendra said that the examination will be conducted at 91 exam centres across 14 districts of the State, as Kamjong and Pherzawl are yet to have any exam centres.
Replying to a query, the Chairman explained that last year's examination result was declared within a month and COHSEM will attempt to declare the result of this year's examination at an even shorter duration.
With the aim of declaring the result at the earliest, the authorities concerned have been instructed to collect the necessary answer sheets/ papers from Kakching, Moirang and Kangpokpi exam centres and bring them to the strong rooms on the day of the examination itself.
Necessary instructions have also been given to send the answer sheets from other far off exam centres, in three trips, he added.
Mahendra explained that the question and answer sheets will be kept at any police station, revenue office or army/paramilitary station, which is nearest to the exam centre.
The 15 minutes time which were normally provided to the students to go through the question, will not be applicable from this year's examination, he added.
45 minutes before the commencement of the exam, the Supervising Officer will open the seal of the papers in the presence of the OCs and the invigilators, and a digital camera has been provided to each SOs for recording the said process.
Reiterating that the Higher Secondary Examination 2018 will be conducted from February 19 to March 28 while the Class XI examination 2018, will be conducted from February 20 to March 29, the Chairman also conveyed his wishes to the students who are appearing the said examinations.
Mahendra also urged all the SOs, OCs, invigilators as well as student organisations, which will be present at the 91 exam centres, to properly observe the previously discussed dos and don'ts regarding the organisation of the exam and to ensure its success.
He further stated that Education Minister Th Radheshyam has informed the District Administration concerned and the respective law enforcing agency to ensure that no unwanted incident occur during the duration of the examinations.
Director of Education (S) Th Kirankumar, is also taking part in supervising all the necessary processes.
The Chairman also appealed to all the DCs, SPs, NGOS as well as the people to offer full support and cooperation for successful organisation of the examinations.
