Imphal, May 16 2009:
Observing that the decision of the Government to allow an Electrical Engineer head the PWD is ultravires and against the norms and laws of country, the serving Civil Engineers of Public Works Department have appealed to the Chief Minister for cancellation of the Govt order pertaining to appointment of an Electrical Engineer as in-charge Chief Engineer of PWD.
In a representation submitted to CM O Ibobi, the civil engineers urged upon the Chief Minister to appoint a serving civil engineer to the post of Chief Engineer, PWD.
They also appealed for rationalisation of the existing engineering post as Civil, Mechanical or Electrical in accordance to CPWD Manual Volume-I and to ensure that each post is filled up by engineers of the particular stream only with necessary modification in the existing RR.
Other points highlighted in the representation included reversion of the present post of Additional Chief Engineer-Electrical to Additional Chief Engineer-Civil which was originally the case.
It also mentioned that the civil engineers may decide to take mass casual leave for three days from May 18 to 20 in protest in case the grievances highlighted above goes unheeded.
