CM assures support to AMBA

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has assured to provide Rs 10 lakh to All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) as initial amount to run a welfare scheme for the members of the association.
The Chief Minister gave his assurance while speaking as chief at the 63rd Foundation Day celebration of the association, held at Cheirap Court complex today.
Contending that Judiciary is one of the four pillars of democracy, Ibobi said that any State or country would be able to provide equal rights and opportunities to its citizens only when the four pillars - Judiciary, Legislature and Executive - are equally strengthened.
He also said that the Government is committed to have a proper functioning of Judiciary system in every district of the State.
Mentioning the function of Judiciary, Ibobi said that Legislature makes the law and Judiciary prevents the citizens including Ministers and bureaucrats from violating the said law.
Saying that it is a matter of pride that AMBA has more than 2000 members, Ibobi expressed hope that the lawyers would help to deliver justice to the people of the State.
Mentioning the importance of instituting District and Sessions Courts in all districts, the Chief Minister also promised to address the infrastructure and manpower inadequacies in different Courts of the State.
Informing the gathering that funds meant for infrastructure development of District and Sessions Courts come directly through the 13th Finance Commission, Ibobi said that the State Government is planning to replace the ageing Court buildings with new ones.
The Chief Minister also assured to construct a mini multipurpose hall in the backyard of the existing Cheirap Court building for proper functioning of different programmes.
Saying that the Chief Justice, Registrar and other Justices of High Court had put forward the matter of justice delivery system and infrastructure and manpower needs in the Courts of the State recently, O Ibobi said that vacant posts can be filled up by lifting the ban imposed on appointment of Court staff.
He also promised to address all the requirements of Public Prosecutors of all the Courts of the State.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who attended the function as guest of honour, said that every citizen must at least have basic knowledge about legal system of the country.
He also said that legal service is a noble profession.
Judges and lawyers from different districts took part in the foundation day celebration, presided by AMBA President Khaidem Mani.
