Imphal, February 15 2019:
As the joint movement of the people in the entire North East region has been successful in preventing the Citizenship Amendment Bill from being tabled in the Rajya Sabha, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Manipur Pradesh has quit from the Manipur Democratic Alliance, which is an apex body of differentpolitical parties.
Speaking to media persons at Mekola today, AITC Manipur Pradesh president Soraisam Manaoton said that the CSOs, students organisation, Meira Paibis, public of Manipur and the people of the North East stood their ground and fought relentlessly against the implementation of the CAB 2016, which ultimately prevented the Bill from being tabled in the house.
He expressed apprehension that the matter, although the Rajya Sabha session was adjourned without introducing the Bill, is not yet settled adding that the people should not yet celebrate as the Bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha.
S Manaoton expressed concern that the movement has not ended.
He maintained that AITC was also present among the 11 political parties which went to Delhi to meet and urge the Prime Minister, Home Minister and other political party leaders, denouncing the Bill.
Manaoton said that the party, at the National level, played a recognisable role in the parliament performance against the Bill adding that AITC Manipur Pradesh has decided to quit the apex body as the issue has come to a pause at the moment.
He underlined the need for constitutional experts and intellectuals to come together and deliberate on the probable predictions of the Bill.
