As the three-year term for the office of the incumbent President of the State Unit of Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) is drawing to an end, the party is talking over the appointment of a consensus new President without holding an election.
Speaking to newspersons at the conference hall of the party office at Nityaipat Chuthek, party Vice-President S Ibohal said that the term for the current President Sh Shantikumar Sharma would end in December this year.
Saying that the party is talking over appointment of a new President without holding an election, S Ibohal added that the party would try to bring a consensus even if multiple candidates come forward for the highest post.
However, the party would go for a poll according to the Constitution of the party in case a consensus candidate could not be appointed, he added.
The Vice-President further said, with the amendment of Article 24 of the party Constitution in the National executive and Councillors conference held on September 24 and 25 this year at Haryana, party Presidents are now allowed to contest elections for the next three years' term again.
