Thoubal, November 11 2020:
Alleging favouritism in the distribution of NFSA rice by the agent, a protest broke out at Wangjing just a day after the result of the by-election to the Assembly segment was declared.
The uproar happened this evening at Moirangthem Leirak under Wangjing-Lamding Municipal Council.
Speaking to media persons, one NFSA beneficiary Leishangthem Usarani claimed that the agent of Moirangthem Leirak distributed 10 kg of rice at free of cost to BJP supporters but only 5 kg of rice was distributed, to INC supporters at the rate of Rs 3 per kilogram.
She stated that many of the NFSA beneficiaries returned home without taking the rice on learning about the preferential treatment from the agent himself.
The two parties began to exchange words when the beneficiaries were asked to sign on a blank paper by the agent for not taking the rice and the other way round for not distributing the rice equally, she said and asked if the Government is giving undue advantages to its supporters.
Appealing to the authority concerned to distribute the NFSA rice meant for the public fairly, Usarani further asked all concerned to refrain from appointing a biased individual as NFSA agent.
