Imphal, November 07 2015 :
Even as the students of NIT Manipur staged a protest at the gate of their Langol campus demanding action against the students involved in an ugly incident that occurred on November 4 night at hostel mess, the institute authority has constituted an inquiry committee to probe the incident.
A student who took part in today's protest said that a particular group of BTech students have been frequently complaining against hostel mess and verbally abusing mess staff and sweepers.
Disclosing a latest instance that happened on November 4 night, he said that these students refused to have dinner complaining that the taste of the food was not good.
Although the mess manager was trying to attend their complaint, the students not only kicked the door of the mess kitchen but also spat inside the mess, he alleged.
Despite all these repeated ugly scenes and frequent disturbances created by this group of students, the NIT and hostel authorities have not taken any action against them, he said.
Consequent upon the incident that happened on November 4 night, students of the institute staged a protest demonstration demanding action against these BTech students at the gate of the institute yesterday.
Instead of convincing the agitated students calmly, Civil Engineering HOD and Associate Dean of the academy, Dr P Albino Kumar threatened them with dire consequences, he said.
As such, he said, the students also demanded that the teacher be put under suspension permanently.
Meanwhile, the NIT authority has constituted a four-member enquiry committee headed by an Associate Dean to investigate the incident of November 4 night.
NIT Registrar RK Lalit issued an office memorandum to this effect today.
The committee would submit its report to the disciplinary committee of the institute by November 9 .
On the other hand, another office memorandum informed that Dr P Albino Kumar would not continue to work as Civil Engineering Department HOD and Associate Dean of the academy until further order.
In another notice, the institute authority informed that action would be taken against those BTech students who were involved in November 4 night incident if they are found guilty.
