World Environment day cum launching of "FridaysForFuture" campaign was jointly organised by Centre for Women and Girls, Lhunnajang and Forest Beat Officer Molnoi, Tengnoupal district, GoM today at MTM Hall, Khopinom Pallel.
The event was supported by terre des hommes, Germany while Hechin Haokip, Secy of CWG delivered a keynote and introduction of FridaysForFuture Campaign.
She said that FridaysForFuture Campaign is a movement that began in August 2018, after 15 years old Greta Thunberg a Swedish climate activist sat in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks, to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis adding that the young girl posted what she was doing on Instagram and Twitter and it soon went viral and on September 8, Greta decided to continue her strike on every Friday until the Swedish policies provided a safe pathway well under 2 degree C, i.e., in line with the Paris agreement.
She continued that the hashtags #FridaysForFuture and #Climatestrike spread and many students and adults began to protest outside of their parliaments and local city halls all over the world.
The first Global Strike for Future was organised on March 15, 2019 worldwide in which 1.6 million supporters participated from more than 125 countries and the second strike was organized on May 24, she added.
The campaign was launched at a simple event in which 65 people have participated including children, adults, village chiefs and members of Child Protection Committee from seven villages viz Molnoi, H Kotlenphai, Zion, Thampalpokpi, Teraphai, Ziontlang and Lhunnajang.
M Inaomacha Singh, Forest Beat Officer Molnoi attended the launching function as special guest and spoke on "Role of Forest department in building a sustainable environment".
He also encouraged the youth and community leaders to take active role in reviving the forest for sustainable environment for future generation while Kamesh, Natural Resource Management Organiser from NERCORMP, Chandel, who is also a special guest, spoke in detail on the World Environment Day and the related issues.
BISHNUPUR: As observed across the globe to maintain a balance environment, the World Environment Day was observed at different parts of Bishnupur district on the theme "Air Pollution" on June 5 and planted about 500 saplings in and around Keibul Lamjao National Park and its vicinity.
The observance funtion was organized by Range - I, Keibul Lamjao National Park, Forest Department, GoM in association with Sangai Protection Forum which was attended by Range Officer, Range - I, KLNP, N Birachandra; Deputy Range Officer, Th Gyanik; Secy, Sangai Protection Forum, Bicky, members and forest guards of KLNP.
Moirang Municipal Council also organized the observance function at its office campus during which more than 200 saplings were planted around the campus.
Chairperson Moirang Municipal Council, M Romibala; vice-chairperson M Basanta Singh; Councillor Ward No 4 N Ibomca Singh; executive officer H Pradeep Kumar among others attended the event as dignitaries.
Bishnupur District BJP too observed the 'World Environment Day' with the plantation of tree saplings around the office campus in the presence of MLA Kumbi AC, S Bira Singh; president Bishnupur District BJP RK Bimola Devi; Bishnupur Kendra BJP candidate K Krishnakumar and workers.
Meanwhile, Bishnupur Forest Division also organized 'World Environment Day' celebration at Bishnupur Public School which was attended by DC Bishnupur Pawan Yadav; SDPO Bishnupur Luxmi Thingbaijam; Dr Rebika Soibam Chanu; Wildlife Warden Bishnupur RK Birjit Singh and Dr Kh Mudhumangol Singh Retd CMO chairman Public School Bishnupur as presidium members.
The event was also observed at Nambol Higher Secondary School, Keinou High School, Kumbi Sandhong Upper Primary School, Wangoo Tampha Lairembi Chingthak in Sugnu, Kumbi College and other Govt schools and private college of the district.
JIRIBAM: The World Environment Day was observed at Jiribam by Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Jiribam at Jirighat High School on June 5.The function was attended by S Shanti Devi, chairperson, Jiribam Municipal Council (JMC); L Roshan Meitei, Zonal Education Officer, Jiribam; A Dembajit Singh, Head Master, Jirighat High School; S Lalmani Singh, AI of School; K Kashiram, AI of Schools and H Rajen Singh, Lect Zoology Dept, Jiribam Higher Secondary School as presidium members.
As part of the event, numerous tree saplings were planted in and around the school campus.
SENAPATI: Makhel villagers also joined the celebration of World Environment Day with the plantation of more than 800 tree saplings to spread the message of the need of protecting and saving the environment.
About 500 villagers led by the village authorities and elders planted trees.
CHANDEL: The South East Manipur College, Komlathabi observed the World Environment Day by planting trees in and around the campus on June 5 .
NONEY: Longmai Nature Club in association with Noney Forest Division organized the observance function of The World Environment Day 2019 at Rhema Public Academy, Khumji in Noney district in the presence of Napoleon Rongmei, DFO Noney; L Biramangol Singh, RFO Noney; Victor Latngamlung Rongmei, District Youth Coordinator Tamenglong among others.
