'Rate of justice delivery in State low'

Imphal, January 07 2018:
A one-day sensitization programme on Gender and Criminal Justice System Reform was held at Kongpal Iranpham community hall, Imphal East today wherein more than 150 people participated.
The programme was jointly organised by Oriental Youth Organisation Kongpal; Women Action for Development and United NGO's Mission Manipur, Imphal East.
Attending as resource person, Laimayum Sevananda, Advocate, Gauhati High Court said that case of crime against women and children in the State is increasing day by day but the rate of justice delivery for the victims is low.
He asserted that the role of police in ensuring speedy justice in the State is vital.
He said that the public should support the police during investigation for speedy justice for the victims.
Elaborating on the topic "Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act", Radhapiyari, convenor of Women Committee United NGO's Mission, Imphal West said that early marriage is one of the root causes of domestic violence in the State as per her experience.
Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary of Women Action for Development & convenor of Women Committee United NGO's Mission Manipur said that people have been experiencing the cases of crime against women and children in every nook and corner of the State through local newspapers and radio.
Case of rape, attempt to rape and murder is becoming one of the burning issues in the State.
A total of 57 women lost their lives in the year 2017.It is high time to take ownership of the issue by the local bodies specially youth clubs, Panchayats, Meira Paibis etc to prevent such crimes against women and children, she maintained.
Khetrimayum Janama Singh; Khetrimayum Tama Devi, Zilla Parisad, Top Naoria; M Dinachandra, Pradhan, Top Naoria; Th Surchandra, president of Oriental Youth Organisation; Mangsatabam Radhakanta, Ward Member, Top Naoria; Mukta Rajkumari, Pradhan, Khurai Khaidem Leikai GP and Pangambam Asita, Ward Member, Top Naoria were present at the sensitization programme as presidium members.
