YSC protests quarrying

The Youth Sporting Club (YSC), Khundongbam Leikai has strongly condemned the sand and stone quarrying activities in Thoubal river amid the water scarcity situation.
Recalling the interim order of the High Court which banned quarrying activities in the major rivers of Manipur, YSC in a statement said that it quarrying is also against the wish of the general public.
More than 2.5 lakh people of six AC namely Andro A/C, Wangkhem A/C, Thoubal A/C, Heirok A/C, Wabagai A/C and Lilong A/C depend on the river for their day to day household needs.
YSC appealed the owners of stone and sand quarries to consider the activities which pollute the river and drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the issue.
Further, YSC acknowledged the continuous effort of Thoubal River Conservation Committee (TRCC) to protect Thoubal River.
They will extend their cooperation in the future task of TRCC, it informed.
