The Duty Magistrate Imphal East on Sunday remanded one non local to six days police custody on the charge of kidnapping a woman and her minor daughter from New Lambulane on February 21 .
Accused Mevada Nileshbhai (24), S/o Dudabhai of Moti Virava Nani Virva, Gujarat was arrested by a team of Imphal East women police with assistance from Mangaluru police from a place near Taj Residency at Mangalore, Karnataka on March 4 and brought to Imphal along with the victims today.
The IO of the case submitted that the husband of the woman lodged a complaint on February 23, claiming that his wife and minor daughter had been abducted by an unknown man on February 21 at around 9 am.
The complainant also mentioned that his wife was offered an overseas job by the man.
Raids were carried out at several suspected hideouts but to no avail, the IO said.
Saying that they received inputs about the whereabouts of the accused and the victims on March 2, the IO continued that the Imphal East women police team went to Mangalore on March 3 and sought assistance from Mangaluru police to rescue the victims.
The accused was arrested from a place near Taj Residency at Mangalore on March 4 .
Alleging that the accused has admitted to the charges levelled against him, the IO prayed for police remand of the accused.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO remanded the accused to police custody till March 11 .
