Moirangthem Ashinikumar, who has been in police custody after being arrested from his house on April 27 last on alleged charge of having nexus with UGs, has been further detained under National Security Act (NSA).
An order to this effect was issued of the District Magistrate, Bishnupur today.
Originally hailing from Keibul Lamjao but staying at Changangei Makha Leikai, Ashinikumar was a candidate of the Samajwadi Party from Thanga Assembly Constituency in the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
After being arrested from his Changangei Makha Leikai residence on April 27 last, Bishnupur District Police produced him before CJM, Bishnupur the following day and he was remanded to police custody for seven days.
An FIR (41 (4) 2010 Bpr P/S) has been registered against him under section 17/20/40 UA (P) A Act, 1980 .
At the end of the remand today, he was again produced before the court of CJM Bishnupur which subsequently granted the police request for detaining him further in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the JAC against the illegal arrest as well as wrongful detention of M Ashinikumar, social worker cum political activist has today decided that the people of Thanga Assembly Constituency would stage a Wakat Meepham at Thanga Tera Makhong Bazar on May 6 to press the demand for release of Ashinikumar unconditionally.
