Ex-IO testifies in Paraolon ambush case

Akoijam Sadananda, Assistant Commandant of 7 IRB, who was the Investigation Officer (IO) of the Paraolon ambush case gave his statement before the Special Judge of National Investigation Agency (NIA) at Cheirap Court complex on February 2 .
Four persons including a Medical Officer of 6 Dogra Regiment had given their statements before the Special Judge on February 1 as part of the trial proceedings of the case.
Ak Sadananda is the prosecution witness number 5 of NIA trial case number 1 of 2016 referred with NIA case number RC 03/2015 NIA Guwahati under Section 302/307/120B/121/121A IPC and 25 (I) (C) Arms Act, Section 5 of Explosive Substance Act and 16/20 UA P .
The accused of the case Kunlo Abi Anal @ Ambison (37) s/o (L) Khumlo Kunjo Anal of Lalambung village, Chandel district was produced before the Court hearing.
He is currently lodged in Sajiwa Central Jail.
In his submission before the Court, Ak Sadananda stated that he was posted as SDPO Moreh when the Paraolon ambush on 6 Dogra Regiment happened on June 6, 2015 .
He also stated that he was informed about the ambush by OC Tengnoupal police, Umar Alam through telephone at around 8.45 am.
According to him, after getting the information he along with other personnel rushed to Tengnoupal police station and then proceeded towards the ambush site.
They reached the site at around 12.30 pm.
Upon reaching the site, a Brigadier and a Colonel along with some personnel were found inspecting the site.
Further he came across two burnt trucks and charred bodies of army personnel inside the burnt Army trucks.
He submitted that another Army truck riddled with bullets was found around 20 meters behind and added that a dead body was also found on the left side of the truck, who was supposedly a member of the group which led the ambush.
He further submitted that some dead bodies of army personnel wrapped in blanket were kept on the roadside.
The prosecution witness was cross examined by the defence counsel.
The Court has fixed February 16 as the next date of further hearing of other prosecution witnesses.
It may be mentioned that till today five prosecution witnesses had given their statements before the Special Judge.
On December 19, 2015, NIA Guwahati had submitted chargesheet.
The case was registered by the Court on January 12 last year and on April 16 charge was framed against the accused.
