Imphal, December 03 2016:
A large number of SSA teachers stormed the office of the Directorate of Education (S) at Lamphel today morning.
Six representatives of the teachers later met the Director after a team of police showed up and prevented all the teachers from entering the office gate.
A teacher who was a part of the procession said that there are almost 2000 SSA teachers in Manipur.
"We are finding it hard to make ends meet as our salary for the past six months have not been paid.
We had already submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister and the Chief Minister in an earlier meeting wherein we had stated that we would take up appropriate actions if our salaries are not paid by the last week of November", he said.
The teachers had launched a cease work strike from the beginning of the month as there was positive response from the Government side.
Huidrom Bhupendranath, president of All Manipur SSA Teachers Association, who was also a part of the team that went in to meet the Director said, "The unpaid salaries of both the upper primary and the primary teachers should be paid at the earliest" .
The Department should pay the salary within a week's time and also take up an optimised measure to ensure regular and well maintained salary payment schedule in the future, he added.
