Khelen Thokchom Trust : Fellowship doors opened for scribes

Following the successful completion of the first edition of Khelen Thokchom Media Fellowship (KTMF) programme 2018-19, the Khelen Thokchom Trust (KTT) has called for eligible journalists from both the hills and valley region of the State to apply for a six month KTMF programme 2019-20 for journalists to study, highlight and report on Manipur's drying water resources.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, KTT spokesperson Rinku Khumukcham said that urbanisation, deforestation, encroachment, conversion of low lying areas into farms, disposal of garbage, use of chemical fertilisers, release of unhygienic waste water from households as well as other toxic chemicals into rivers and water bodies apart from climate change, are the major causes of degrading, polluting and ultimate drying up of the water resources in the State.
The KTMF programme on the State's water resources was conceptualised to inform the public on the said issue through the media considering the current challenges in protecting and conserving water resources, he said and urged journalists who have worked as a reporter/correspondent/contributor of newspaper/periodicals with 3 years of experience in print journalism to apply for the fellowship.
Further encouraging the interested journalists to highlight the economics and the ecosystems of the State's water resources apart from introducing innovative ideas to protect and conserve the surface or underground or rain water through his/her writing to spread public awareness in safeguarding the ponds, wells, rivers, springs, lakes and wetlands of the State, he explained that interested journalists can submit an application along with bio-data, a letter from the Editor that the output under the fellowship will be published, and a sample of a published report on environment and water issues, should be submitted to the coordinator, KTMF c/o Pureiromba Enterprises, Palace Gate before September 20 .
He further informed that the selected applicants will be announced on October 27 during the birth anniversary observation of late Khelen Thokchom.
