Imphal, September 28 2021:
The All Manipur Muslims' Organization Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has strongly condemned the recent broad daylight abduction and murder of Zeliangrong Baudi's former president and advisor Athuan Abonmai.
Speaking to the media during a press meet held today at its office at Hatta this afternoon, AMMOCOC president SM Jalal stated that they were shocked and surprised at the broad daylight abduction of Athuan Abonmai from a place where a mega function attended by the Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers was held.
He questioned how Abonmai was abducted and killed amid tight security measures and expressed suspicion that there might be a conspiracy behind the incident.
Saying that questions are being raised from many sections of the society on the abject failure of security measures on the day, Jalal opined that those concerned with gathering intelligence inputs must be held responsible for the incident apart from the DC and SP concerned.
"As such the transfer of the SP and the DC is not enough and the State Government must come up with a concrete step to prevent recurrence of similar incidents in the future", the AMMOCOC president added.
He went on to say that there is an apprehension among the public whether those people who have differences in opinion and political principles will be targeted and murdered.
The State Government and public should now seriously ponder on the lawlessness and security lapses in the hill districts.
Otherwise, shocking incidents like the murder of Athuan Abonmai cannot be prevented in the future too, he continued.
Expressing solidarity and moral support to the steps taken up by the JAC, the AMMOCOC president maintained that all must rise and take a strong decision against the extreme act of killing Abonmai and intolerance towards differences in opinion and political principles.
