Imphal, May 28 2017:
The roads
which also serve as the main
lifelines for the villages covered
by the Dolaithabi Barrage
project have been transformed
into treacherous and high risk
terrains.
On an inspection trip organised
by Dolaithabi
Development Youth Club today,
media persons found
large boulders and rocks from
the hills lying along the side
of the already deplorable
roads.
According to the secretary
of the club, RK Bikom Singh,
frequent rock slides as a result
of improper methods of
hill clearing have resulted in
the deteriorating condition of
the roads and pointed out that
the villagers of the areas covered
by the Dolaithabi barrage project transverse these roads in constant
fear of the precariously dangling rocks and boulders which might
fall any moment.
He appealed to the State Government to take up necessary
steps to improve the condition of the roads which are full of
mud and have even developed large craters.
Bikom also appealed to all the contractors concerned to
clear the blockage of the adjacent river in the interest of the
people.
The club secretary further appealed to the authority
concerned to take up necessary steps for rehabilitating and
resettling the people of Dolaithabi village before the inauguration
of the barrage project.
Dolaithabi has more than 41 households and more than 300
villagers.
It may be mentioned that Dolaithabi barrage project was
approved by the Planning Commission and works on the
project, which lies in the adjoining area of Imphal East and
Senapati district, began in 1992 .
