44 pc given double doses: Dr Shyamjai

Out of the State's targeted population of 19,37,628, 44.20 per cent has been given both the first dose and second dose of Covid vaccine while 65.86 per cent has received the first dose.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, National Health Mission, State Mission Director Dr N Shyamjai said that 21,32,564 people of the State have been administered Covid vaccine till yesterday and this figure is inclusive of both the groups of people who have received single dose and double doses of the vaccine.
At the National level, more than 100 crore people have been already given Covid vaccines.
Of the 21,32,564 people who have been vaccinated, 12,76,049 have received only the first dose while 8,56,515 have received both the first and second doses, Dr Shyamjai said.
A Covid vaccination campaign was launched in the State on January 16 this year with the objective of vaccinating 19,37,628 people.
Saying that the number of people eligible for Covid vaccination could not be determined based on the Census report, Dr Shyamjai said that the total number of people eligible for Covid vaccination was determined using the electoral roll.
Based on data collected from the electoral roll, a target was set for vaccinating 19,37,628 people but the same target was raised to 19,58,087 in September, he said.
Following revision of the electoral roll, the target was raised again to 19,68,476 in November.
In the meantime, a letter sent by the Government of India asked the State to set the vaccination target of 23,41,000 people, Dr Shyamjai said.
At present, only people who are 18 and above are eligible for Covid vaccination but it is not sure whether the State's population above 18 years of age has reached 23,41,000, he said.
In the course of the ongoing campaign Har Ghar Dastak Abhiyan, household Covid vaccination has been going on smoothly.
The campaign launched by the Government of India on November 1 would continue till November 30.In addition to the already existing vehicles, 120 other vehicles provided by Care India are being utilised to take the campaign to every nook and corner of the State, he said.
Notably, only health care workers were covered when the Covid vaccination campaign was launched for the first time in the State on January 16 .
Frontline workers were brought under the campaign from February 8, followed by people who were 45 and above and had co-morbidity and people who were aged 60 and above from March 1 .
The campaign was extended to people who were 45 and above from April 1, people in the age group of 18-44 from May 17, lactating mothers from May 19 and pregnant women from August 5 .
