Imphal, July 26 2011:
The Cabinet decision to change the recruitment process of teachers by incorporating common eligibility test for the candidates may be a step forward for ushering in quality education in Government schools but upholding a 50 per cent mark criterion is preposterous, said a press release issued by KSO Ghqs.
Adopting the new procedure would be discriminatory to a large number of candidates who do not possess the 50 per cent mark ceiling and only few percentage of the intending candidates would be eligible for the eligibility test.
Saying that there is disparity in awarding marks in exams between different universities, the KSO asserted that specifying a certain mark ceiling for the eligibility test sounds irrational.
If the Govt is resolute on the eligibility test, then it should make certain amendments to allow all intending candidates appear in the eligibility test.
The KSO urged upon the authority to give another thought and reconsider its decision over the new recruitment process so as not to marginalise a large number of students on the excuse of poorer mark percentage.
