Imphal, May 26 2011:
Police registered another case against organizers of a public meeting held at Thoubal's Kiyam Wangmatama community on Monday (May 23) which had endorsed 'plebiscite as the only means for resolving the Manipur-India conflict through public participation' .
This is the third case which police registered against holding public meeting which adopt similar resolution.
Imphal West and Imphal East district police had already registered cases against the organizers of such public meeting under 153 (B) of IPC alleging that such resolution is tantamount to imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration.
However, no arrest was made so far by the police, including the latest case registered in the Thoubal police station.
The case registered with Thoubal police station was against social activist Th Achou, advocate Angomcha Araba, Th Arun, secretary of Life Care Foundation, Th Pishak, social worker and S Ibehanbi, secretary of Kiyam Wangma Taba Meira Paibi Lup.
The meeting presided by Th Pishak was held under the theme 'Manipur-India conflict and its resolution through public participation' and urged the people of Manipur should resolved whether it will remain 'annexed' to India at this juncture, the FIR case alleged.
When it cannot be settled through peace talk, the people of Manipur required sound/voice to the UN for the settlement of the underground conflict through plebiscite, the meeting organised by the Kiyam Wangma Taba Meira Paibi Lup had resolved.
The meeting further resolved to seek the support of the UN and other international human right bodies in resolving the Manipur-India conflict.
While the meeting resolved to settle the present "underground conflict" in Manipur through plebiscite with intent to course implication pre-judicial and feeling of enmity towards government of India established law, the FIR stated.
It is pertinent to mention here that such meetings have taken place in different parts across the four valley district.
Police registered the first case as a suo-motu case on the meeting at Mayang Langjing February 27 last.
The UNLF, fighting for restoration of Manipur's sovereignty, has been proposing to the Centre for a plebiscite which would be held under the United Nations to decide whether the people of Manipur will remain a part of India or not.
Such meetings were holding widespread since the arrested UNLF chairman had strongly demanded plebiscite while he was produced in the court of NIA special court in Guwahati.
Manipur chief minister O Ibobi Singh had, in the state assembly in its last seating, said that the plebiscite proposal initiated by the banned militant outfit UNLF was a hint to come to the negotiating table.
But asserted that to implement the proposal would be a tough one.
