Demanding the unconditional release of those arrested by the police following a confrontation at Mantripukhri yesterday, the public of the area has warned of launching intense agitation in collaboration with like-minded organisations.
A team of leaders and public led by the spokesperson of Pangal Political Forum, MI Khan today visited the site where the ugly confrontation between the police and the public took place at Mantripukhri yesterday.
Public of Mantripukhri strongly resisted the officials who went for land measurement for setting up of an RBI Branch yesterday.
In a confrontation between the police and the public, a police Gypsy was torched by the mob.
Besides, resorting to firing tear gas shells, many of the locals were arrested by the police.
Various social organisations of Mantripukhri today expressed disapproval of the Govt's plan to acquire land in the area without prior information and consent of the public concerned.
They said that they are not against the Govt's development project, but could not allow the manner in which the Govt decided to measure land for acquisition without prior information of the public.
The public further alleged that the police arrested innocent locals in the wake of the protest besides resorting to firing of tear gas shells and rubber bullets at them.
They also alleged the police of wantonly damaging individual properties and confiscating the mike and battery from a Masjid.
