Imphal, January 23 2019:
Following the failure of the Government to fulfil the demands of the Secretariat employees despite the recent two days mass casual leave protest, the employees have launched an indefinite cease work protest from today.
Due to the indefinite cease work strike, normal functioning of the Secretariat was greatly hampered and the effect was also felt in the ongoing preparations for the coming Republic Day celebration.
It may be recalled that the Manipur Secretariat Services Association launched a mass casual leave on January 16 and 17 demanding payment of due 11 percent DA, fixing Grade II employees grade pay at Rs 1900, fixing of grade pay of ASO and SO at Rs 4600 and 4800 respectively and other demands as well.
Today, on the launch of the indefinite cease work strike, Secretariat employees came to the office at 9.45 am, gave their biometrics attendance and left the office at 4.30 pm, but did not perform any work during the office hours as protest.
As a result, the normal functioning of the Secretariat North Block and South Block was greatly affected.
The protest also affected the printing of invitation for the coming Republic Day as well as other processes related to the celebration.
According to a member of the MSSA, the indefinite cease work will continue until and unless an amicable solution is reached with the State Government.
If a positive response is given from the Government's side, the association will try to suspend the strike.
If not, the protest will be intensified, the member added.
