As part of the drive against drugs and liquor in the State, a team of Imphal East district police picked up 11 individuals, including a one who claimed to be the PRO of a Minister, as well as three girls, who were found drinking, and handed them over to Porompat police station, today.
According to a reliable source, a team of Imphal East district police, led by Additional SP W Kasar, launched a drive at a restaurant called The Palace at Konung Mamang, at around 7.30 pm, after getting information that some individuals were drinking/involved in intoxicated activities.
During the course of the drive, the police checked the top most floor of the restaurant and found nine individuals, including three girls, drinking in a room with dim lights and with loud songs playing in the background.
When the police tried to take the individuals, as well as two people/staff of the restaurant (who were serving the people) to Porompat police station, one of the individuals identified as Lourembam Sanjoyof Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai, claimed himself to be the PRO of a Minister and created a scene demanding the police to release them.
However, the police still took them to the police station after seizing numerous foreign liquor and beer bottles from the room where the people had been drinking.
