They are saddened by the indifferent attitude of the authority concerned as no action has been taken against the involved persons.
The locals also said that the old hanging bridge over the Goakhal river is in deplorable conditions, that can be collapsed anytime soon endangering the lives of hundreds of students who frequently crossed the said bridge to reach Borobekra Higher Secondary School which is very unfortunate as the concerned authority of Jiribam district knew the conditions of the old hanging bridge.
The local urged the contractor and concern authority to expedite the construction work of the Bailey bridge so that it can be completed before the onset of rainy season and cautioned the authority concerned to stop testing the patience of public tolerance before it is too late.
It may be mentioned that the bailey bridge over the Goakhal river under Borobekra sub- division of Jiribam District was collapsed on August 22 at around 8 am due to sub-standard work in which 7 construction workers who were engaged for the work sustained grievous injuries and some even perished.
The bridge was constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sarak Yojana, a project funded by Ministry of Rural Development, Govt of India.
The estimated length of the bridge is 160 ft and the construction work was commenced in November 2014 and is expected to be completed by November 2016.But it is very unfortunate that the construction work of the bridge is not yet completed.
