MCPCR releases draft Manipur State Policy for Children 2020, seeks suggestion

The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights celebrated Children's Day at the official residence of Social Welfare Minister Okram Henry at Babupara today and produced a draft of the Manipur State Policy for Children, 2020 .
Okram Henry released the draft policy inviting suggestions and recommendations from the public and subject experts.
On the occasion, Okram Henry said the Manipur State Policy for Children, 2020 aims at protecting child rights and their wellbeing.
Educationists, subject experts and public may send their suggestions for improving the policy within 15 days for consideration, he said.
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairman Phurailatpam Manibabu said Children's Day is celebrated every year on November 14 commemorating the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
India has more than 470 million children and many of them are- orphans.
In Manipur too, there are many children who are orphans.
The Commission is taking up best efforts to protect children in the State and ensure them their rights.
The draft policy is for the children and the public and experts should send their suggestions for improvement, he said.
Social Welfare Director, Ng Uttam said about 38 percent of the population are children under the age of 18 .
They and their rights should be protected, he said.
