Five powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted along the roadside of Phaico village near Nampisha, close Manipur-Myanmar border were detected by a team of 44 Assam Rifles at around 8.45 pm yesterday.
According to a police source, the powerful IEDs were found planted along the roadside by personnel of 44 AR posted at Nampisha village, some 32 Kms to the south of Chassad police station under Kamjong sub-division of Ukhrul district.
The bombs were suspected to have been planted by underground militants to target security forces.
After the bombs were detected, a team of bomb experts and civil police rushed to the area this morning and the bombs were detonated safely.
Each bomb weighed around 1 Kg, added the source.
