Managing Director of Manipur Milk Producers' Co-operative Union Ltd, Porompat, Dr Ng Ibotombi, who is also a Joint Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, has refuted the claim that packaging of Chumthang pasteurised toned milk violates food safety guidelines.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Veterinary Department at Sanjenthong in the presence of Chairman and members of Board of Director, Manipur Milk Producers' Co-operative Union Ltd, Ng Ibotombi said that different dairy co-operative societies and dairy farmers have been vending the milk they produced to the Porompat dairy for marketing under the brand Chumthang since September 2019.Before changing the name to Chumthang, the union sold the milk under the brand Sangom.
The union also deal in other milk products such as Chumthang ghee, curd and cream among others, he said adding that Porompat dairy continues to function with approval from the Government amid the lockdown to ensure that there is no shortage of milk and dairy products in the State.
Stating that the union was left with no other choice but to utilise the leftover materials of Sangom for packaging Chumthang for about 5 days as a stock gap management due to the unavailability of original materials which import from Assam, he added that Chumthang pasteurised toned milk is a quality product fit for consumption.
Manufacturing and expiry dates of each packet are visibly written but there might be some error as the printing is done via machine, he said and added that the Chumthang toned milk doesn't violate the guidelines of Food Safety and Standard Act.
