Imphal, January 07 2015:
People's Protection and Development Committee of Wangoi and Protection Committee of Wangoi CHC, during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, appealed the authorities concerned to call off the State's plan to convert Wangoi Sub-division Community Health Centre (CHC) to a Rural Health Training Centre.
Speaking at the occasion, Protection Committee of Wangoi CHC convenor Sherkhan Meinam said that the residents of Wangoi are against the State's decision to convert the CHC to a Rural Health Training Centre under JNIMS.
Wangoi Subdivision CHC at present is functioning most efficiently.
However, with the establishment of the proposed centre, the locals would be deprived of the medical facilities which were provided by the CHC, the convenor added.
Wangoi residents had earlier staged various protests demanding cancellation of the conversion order.
The Chief Minister had also assured that the CHC would not be removed at any cost.
However, as per an order issued by authorities concerned on December 31, medical staff and other machinery have been transferred from the CHC, Sherkhan alleged.
Dubbing the act as a conspiracy to abolish the CHC, the convenor further expressed his disappointment with the CM and his inability to keep his words.
As per Medical Council of India, Rural Health Training Centre should be established in an area between 0 to 30 kilometres from Imphal.
As such, the convenor added, the centre could be constructed anywhere other than Wangoi subdivision.
People Protection and Development Committee Wangoi secretary W Jitendra, during his speech appealed to the authorities concerned to work as per the wishes and aspirations of the people.
The CHC should be made functional as usual by January 11 else people of Wangoi area would not remain silent, Jitendra said.
The matter would be apprised to the Medical Council of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Sherkhan added.
