UWC Kpi draws Government attention

Kangpokpi, July 03 2017:
Expressing deep concern over the dilapidated condition of the National Highway 2 especially within Kangpokpi District, the United Welfare Committee (UWC) , Kangpokpi, has drawn the attention of the State Government towards the issue .
A press release issued by the president and general secretary of the UWC today, stated that Kangpokpi is a newly created district and the people comprising of Kukis, Nepalese and Nagas and other communities have great expectation from Chief Minister N Biren Singh led BJP State Government regarding development of the district to be at par with the rest of the districts in Manipur .
It said that the National Highway 2 which passes through the district is an important lifeline for the people of Manipur and over 2000 trucks carrying much needed supplies and commodities for the people of the State are plying on the highway every day .
However, the highway has been neglected, kept unrepaired and unattended for the last two years due to which there have been fatal accidents and deaths, it said .
Expressing disappointment, it added that despite the new Government sanctioning funds for maintenance of the highway under its 100 days programme, the condition of the road remains the same .
The Committee also pointed out that high standard of work quality has to be maintained and modern machineries are required for repairing such an important National Highway which is also the lifeline of Manipur .
It also added that a truck carrying mud and three to four labourers are engaged to repair the potholes and the mud get carried away by rain within 3/4 days .
While underlining the importance of proper road capable of sustaining proper transportation which is also major factor for development of newly created Kangpokpi district, the United Welfare Committee appealed to all the contractors engaged in the road repairing work to refrain from compromising the quality of work at any cost in the interest of the general public.
It further stated that the committee will be a watch dog for all the development works within Kangpokpi district and will not remain a silent spectator if the welfare schemes for the people of the district are not carried out as intended and on time.
