Imphal, December 01 2016:
A group of political workers belonging to BJP Nambol Mandal allegedly forged signatures of 20 people and submitted a representation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) .
Speaking to media persons at Leimapokpam Mayai Leikai today, Leimapokpam Gram Panchayat Up-Pradhan Asem Nawang remarked that there was no harm in submitting a representation with an appeal to hold the forthcoming Assembly election in a free and fair manner.
"However, forging signatures of 20 of us is a very serious matter", he said.
He said that a group of people led by BJP Nambol Mandal general secretary (administration) A Jiten forged signatures of 20 people and submitted a representation to the Chief Election Commissioner Dr Nasim Zaidi on September 19 this year.
The representation said that citizens belonging to six polling stations of Leimapokpam village (Nambol AC) could not exercise their right to vote freely due to massive rigging during the past 20 years.
Saying that the massive rigging was done by Congress candidate N Loken and his supporters, the memorandum urged the ECI to install CCTV cameras, station micro observers, use VVPATs and webcast polling process of all the six polling stations.
A Jiten submitted another representation to the Bishnupur District Election Officer on November 22 using the same forged signatures.
A Jiten and his companions were misleading the ECI as well as the general public by using the forged signatures, Nawang said.
He added that 19 of them submitted a letter to the ECI on November 28 clarifying that they had no idea about the representation submitted on September 19 .
It further urged the ECI to take up befitting action against A Jiten and his companions for the forgery.
