Imphal, September 01 2019:
The International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) has reasoned that the workers/labourers at FCI Jiribam should be given proper wages as per the current rate.
Speaking to media persons at IPSA office at Keishamthong yesterday, its president Joychandra Konthoujam said that the workers at Imphal FCI are given Rs 4 for carrying a 50 kg rice bag however, the workers at FCI Jiribam are given only Rs 2 per the same bag.
Asking why there is such a difference in the wage, he said that IPSA has already met the labourer union at Jiribam and the contractors concerned numerous times.
However, when IPSA planned a final meeting today, the contractors failed to turn up, he lamented adding that IPSA will stand for the workers.
Urging all not to politicise the matter, Joychandra demanded equal wages for all the workers.
He then explained that the workers were normally demanding Rs 6 per 50 kg bag and appealed to the authority concerned to look into this grievance of the workers as well.
On the other hand, he alleged that the workers are not able to get labour card from the Labour Department and appealed to the Government to do the needful at the earliest.
He continued that the workers have complained to IPSA that they are not being given proper wages but on the other hand, the contractors claimed that the wages were being handed out twice in a month.
As such, there seems to be a case of misunderstanding and mis-communication as well , he opined.
