To curb noise and air pollution, Manipur Pollution Control Board has begun a survey to identify and pull up those who add to noise and air pollution.
Speaking to media persons, Laishram Radhakishore, Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board said that an order was issued on May 29 this year to ban the installation of modified exhaust silencer.
Based on that order, MPCB sent a written request to the DGP today to aid in prohibiting such silencer which produce a sound that is above the norm.
Green Acts and Motor Vehicle Act also restrict the installation of such modified exhaust silencers and it is also punishable by law, he said.
While conducting a survey at Keishampat, the sound produced in the area reached upto 75.4 decibel, which exceeds the permissible limits by .65 decibel, the Chairman said and added that the level of air pollution in the area also exceeds the permissible limit by almost 2 times.
Radhakishore also stated that steps to ban old vehicles will also be initiated as the smoke emitted from old vehicles has the maximum impact on the surrounding and also cause serious health issues.
Survey on ambient noise, ambient air, vehicular emission were conducted today, he said and added that more survey will also be conducted in six different places of Imphal till September 17 and the report will be sent to the State Govt.The Chairman appealed all the authority concerned to support the initiatives of the Manipur Pollution Control Board.
