Jiribam contractual teachers threaten stir

All Jiribam Contract Teachers Association (AJCTA), Jiribam on Sunday threatened the State Government it would go on strike if the service extension order for contractual teachers is not issued by June 15 .
The Government is not doing the needful to extend service of contract teachers even though three months have elapsed since the signing of the contract, AJCTA vice president S Phanstomas said during a press meet at Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School, reports Jiri News Network on Sunday.
He said 113 contract teachers were appointed to make over the shortage of teachers in all educational institutes in Jiribam subdivision of Imphal East.
The Government should pay pending salary to these teachers, he demanded.
Phanstomas further said the Government is not keeping up its assurance to extend the service of these contractual teachers though they still continue to attend their respective schools.
"We'll go on strike if the order is not issued by June 15," he said.
