Imphal, March 31 2012:
Residents of Waiton Maning Leikai have staged a sit-in protest today against the planting of a bomb at the gate of a local resident by unidentified miscreants yesterday.
According to locals, a powerful bomb was planted at the residential gate of Maibam Ibomcha (58), an employee in the Veterinary department by unknown miscreants.
It was detected yesterday around 12 noon when the children of the household came out to buy eatables.
However, the bomb was diffused later by the Imphal East district police personnel.
President of Waiton Women's Nishaband Association, Wahengbam Manbi said the sit in protest was held today to register condemnation and protest over the incident of placing the bomb at residential area.
The protesters demanded the concerned individuals or groups to clarify the matter immediately.
It may be mentioned that the two brothers of Ibomcha, Inaocha and Tomba have been owning a brick field at Waiton.
Around 500 people of Waiton locality and the nearby area are employed in the brick field.
No threat has been received by them before.
Protesters vented their angst that the incident has sent jittery among the local residents.
They said it was not an assault on Maibam Ibomcha's family, but an attack on the people of Waiton.
