Kangpokpi, July 29 2017:
Expressing serious concern over the non-release of the salaries for both the teaching and non-teaching staffs under ZEO Kangpokpi, The All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM), has urged the Education Department to release the employee's salary at the earliest .
Micah Kamei, secretary, Information and Publicity of ATSUM, said that many of the teachers, who have to commute to and fro for discharging their duties, are under immense pressure to meet both the expenses of their family as well as the expenditures to be incurred in their travel .
He alleged that there is an ongoing tussle for the post of ZEO but this should not affect the innocent teaching and non-teaching staffs who have been diligently performing their duties of imparting knowledge to the students .
Micah Kamei also said that the inaction of the Education Department is evident by the fact that a representation was submitted by the District Teachers Association to the authority concerned on July 21 but the Department has been deliberately keeping mum on the pretext that the Assembly session is going on .
"ATSUM feels the excuse furnished by the Education Department unreasonable", he added .
Pointing out that the nearly a thousand work-force under ZEO Kangpokpi constitutes the maximum bulk of the Government service within the district, Micah Kamei said that detention of their salary has a ripple-effect on the economy and agricultural activity of the district itself .
He said that ATSUM will not remain a silent spectator when the lives of more than two lakh people are at stake, and urged the authority concerned to take up necessary steps to solve the problem at the earliest.
